The main scientific results are the analysis of the non-conformist thinking of the «strong» hero in the work of André Gide, the evolution of the character from non-conformism to conformism. In the works of A. Gide, it was found modernist aspects represented by philosophical hedonistic motives. It was explored the fruitful embodiment of the elements of symbolist poetics; the writer's premonition of postmodern aesthetics; disclosure of the phenomenon of literary existentialism as a problem of choice. It was reconsidered the «reputation» of Simone de Beauvoir (the conclusion of the writer's achievements from the shadow of Jean-Paul Sartre), her role and place in the history of literature of the twentieth century were recoded. It was correlated syntagma «literary existentialism» in the aspect of the semantic content of the term: the phenomenon of the problem of choice in diachrony and synchronicity was revealed. In the literary works of Simone de Beauvoir, a combination of parable and journalistic layers was found. The parable cavity arises from the «myth" about Adam and Eve, the publicistic one arises from the understanding of historical, social, political and cultural events. Eva absorbed the archetypes of the ancient Greek goddesses. The archetypes of goddesses are manifested in artistic images, respectively, to concepts such as: «feminine» – alchemical goddess (Aphrodite from the archetype of the Great Goddess), «feminist» – untouched goddesses (Artemis, Athena, Hestia), and «feminine» – impressionable goddesses (Hera, Demeter, Persephone). The author has revealed the significant contribution of S. de Beauvoir to the creation of «feminine» artistic images which due to the problems of choice, introduce the idea of the importance of «love», lose their feelings and the status of the «Other» as an inferiority complex, and reach the level of creative self-realization of the existential. S. de Beauvoir realizes the phenomenon of literary existentialism as a problem of choice that is posed to the hero and contributes to his evolution. It is proved that the creation of influential heroines by S. de Beauvoir, respectively «feminine» concept, influenced the literary images of the XX-XXI centuries.

In the trends of European literature at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries researcher established the formation of the artistic paradigm «critical fiction», formed after postmodernism, changed postmodern aesthetics as a «tradition» in opposition and inheritance. The following aspects are inherent in «critical fiction»: the revival of communication, revival of tradition – connection to traditional literature; revival of history; the revival of linearity; the isolation of the personalities of the past from the aesthetics and directions to which they relate; attention to «individual» works of artists; revival of the plot, intrigue; revival of faith, values; finding connections, asserting the existence of a system and hierarchy; an appeal to science, religion, psychology as explanatory systems of knowledge; an attempt to find the truth; image – «invention» of the environment as a demonstration of a different view of the world; narrative instance of the author-hero; transformation of the genre, synthesis of styles: scientific, artistic, journalistic, advertising; social determinism; combination of material and spiritual: technicalism with psychologism; avoiding cliches; overcoming the complex of «mass» and «crowd»; the return of historicism: copying from history and writing into history; linearity, instead of a circle; auto-fixation; story-filiation - uncertain nation as hesitant storytelling; the period of «no-knowledge»; contamination; aesthetic minimalism; veiled intertextuality; illusiveness.

The author has proved that postmodern sensibility is denied by «critical fiction» in portraying the world as chaos, when it revives faith, the existence of universal human values, and inherits and deepens the poetic thinking of the postmodern «manner of writing». She denies the principle of nonselection when looking for «connections», affirming the existence of social and other systems and hierarchies. She rejects fragmentation returning plot linearity. She expresses confidence in the meta-story when referring to science, religion, psychology as explanatory systems of knowledge. She denies the discreteness of history, trying to revive «history» as an evolutionary process, as well as postmodernism «critical fiction» reveals the shortcomings of the media, but more aggressively. In contrast to postmodernism, which rejected the truth, claiming its variability, «critical fiction» tries to find the truth and revive morality and universal human values. In the chronotope of «critical fiction» the hero is actively involved in modernity, time of represented events is the present (linear, sequential, evolutionary, historical); space is «earthly» and «unearthly» (after death), place is earthly life and existence after death in «unearthly dimensions».

Auto-fixation turns out to be in the combination of the empirical author and the explicit author in the image of the main character of the work, that is not identified with the real author. Biographical fiction is just an imitation of the biography of a real author or another famous writer who is the hero of the work. An indecisive nation demonstrates a certain  point of view in the hero's narration from his inner view, which is a focalization of the worldview position. Story-filiation provides for the establishment of connections, inventions of authenticity and distinction, explains «self» and «non-self». Social determinism reveals causality, connections in society, presupposes a «connection» between a work and reality, as an attempt to include it and influence society. The features of «critical fiction» are found in the works of contemporary writers F. Begbede, A. Notomb, J. Muax, M. Kundera, I. Noll, J. Barnes, T. Eggen, J. Gorder, J. Paulo, Shan Sa M. Barbery, B. Verbera, D. van Koveler, S. Rushdie, Shan Sa, J. Paolo, S. Vakarchuk and others.
